..why the double standard?..

August 10th, 2006 · 11 Comments

We always hear the phrase the customer is always right, well, not quite in my case. This week I had a headache figuring out what to do with my 1995 Toyota Corolla inherited from Abah.Since he got the brand new Perdana V6 (rewarded from the Government since he’s been a loyal civil servant) , I got my hands on the Toyota. It is simple, yet is has served my family well. Not quite so since I’ve returned home from Moscow. The paint is flaking,I got tapak kaki kucing all over the bodywork, the steering wheel isnt pointing to the right direction and so on.Regardless,I drive it anyway, being the daredevil that I am (only when I drive alone).Since I’ve returned,I manage to clock some miles on the reader, went to KLIA,Kajang, all around Bangi and yeah,KL.

But since they’ve been a squeaky sound coming out of the bearing of my right front tyres thingy (I dont know what to call them things), I became more cautious.Embarassed too because everytime I turn the steering wheel to drive, the squeaking sounds come. Thus I went to the workshop to sort things out.Seeing that I was just a kid,a punk perhaps,I wasnt really bothered by any of them mechanics in the first place. After about 10minutes sitting on the front bonnet of my car,a mechanic came and asked me about the problem. So he tinkered around my car, checking things out eventhough I already said the problem is at my front right tyre thingy. Then he said that I need to change my front tyres la,citing that it looks kinda weird and it may be hazardous and dangerous to me one day.Well of course, since I havent pumped it up,of course it looked that way.By the way I’ve just changed them a few months ago and nobody had used the Toyota since, because Mak and Abah drive their own cars. How does that make a difference to my tyres? So I asked him to cut the cr@p and fix my original problem. So off he went tinkering with the car again, doing his job,I think.

After 2hours I was told that he cant fix them and I need to either leave my car there so they can fix more and wait for the component to come or just for me to come later when the component arrive.Heck, why didnt he told me earlier? That the component is hard to find I understand, but why didnt he ordered that earlier when he tinkered with my car?So I went home with the battered car, still squeaking though.Later that week I returned, albeit with my father. We were like emperors, treated firstly among others (some mat rempit and mat kilang).Boss,no problem boss.Boleh siap dalam masa 1 jam punya oo.Ini balang aa,saya pigi panggil itu olang, nanti dia anta itu balang cepat-cepat punya. Is it because my father looks like a typical Malay politician?Which he isnt.So there you are.Well,I have to say that,as much as we respect our seniors, surely there is some justice somewhere. After all,I am a customer.Right?

Err ko hantar kete tu kat kedai apek mane?

Hurm mungkin kita sebagai manusia ni terlalu memandang rupa.

Tengak muka ‘cikai’ sikit mula pikir macam-macam…

“Hey die tu sengal la..etc etc”

Aku sendiri terkedu bila tahu yang makcik & pakcik tua yang aku rasa ‘cikai’ kat sini banyak yang hebat-hebat sebenarnya….

Ingatlah bahawa muka bukanlah segalanya…sapa tahu mungkin ilmunya penuh di dada?

the squeking sound maybe because of your drive shaft. if i was you, i wont wait, and i definitely not leaving my car just because of the squeking sound, god knows what they going to do, and the charges will be expensive.

if the mechanic dont bother about me, theres plenty more mechanic to go to.

dont so succumb, if they cant do it, take it to another mechanics. it is ok to round the wheels a bit rather than to be klepet you know?

once you know a good mechanic, then stick to it.

Heh, I used to drive a 1993 Iswara from JB to KL and K. Terengganu. Even worse, the car ran on merely two cylinders (!) before I sent the engine for top-overhaul.

You can’t run away from double standards in a purely profit-driven world. Values are merely a means to entice customers, not an end in itself. In the US, it is slightly better due to high consumerist activism.

Enough for now. Back to work…

    wah, that s so obvious!

you should’ve brought the car to toyota service center. they have a really good customer service.

not quite true, some are, maybe, but of you take the time, theres plenty a good, honest and polite mechanics. eventhough i know only two good mechanic, one in subang, here where i go if my problem were in engines part, the mechanic were good plus the charges are cheaper. one more in ampang, where i send for tuning, service and beside engines part. here, the mechanics are customer friendly and they work quite fast and the results are good.

tapi rasputin, baik baiki kereta tu. nanti tak pasal-pasal, tayar kereta mendahului keretanya. bahaya tu. pasal mekanik tu, selak aje Yellow Pages, senang. tak cuba tak tahu, benar kan.

Sebenarnye agak cuak gak sbb bunyi tu memang sangat kuat, masa tekan pedal pun rasa kesian pulak kat keter ni,rasa macam azab je.Memang betul la masalah driveshaft, dan perkara ni bukan main2,memang aku dah gi antar baiki secepat mungkin.

    Terima kasih untuk komen rakan2.

    em..
apabila dibuka bangsalnya, kelihatan 2,3 buah MERCEDES miliknya..
