If it’s a malay-only social club, then call it Malay Society of NJ-NY.
If it’s an Islamic movement group, why not call it MISG.
If it’s a partisan-politics group, then name it UMNO Party.
Ditch all the preposterous “non-partisan”, “islamic” and “intellectual” weasel words.
Can’t you just call a “spade” a “spade”?

Let me get one thing straight, the fact that the writer of the comment harbors preconceive notions towards this newly-established club, tells me of his uncouth disposition. It also tells me that the writer has a subjective mindset which is indicative of an unitelligent thus unwise character.
However, let me take the high road by giving the writer, still, the benefit of the doubt. The writer knows all too well of his unprofessional demeanor, in any case whatsoever. Mere conjectures, I will not waste my time. Should the writer ask objectively, will I only answer.

dear mr/mrs NNS,
who are you to answer for umno? do u know that sometimes people get fed up to ask objectively coz umno doesn’t work with rationality. money buy power.
kaki bangku // Oct 26, 2006 at 3:33 am
JAY & NNS,
That’s ample proof of your ignorance. You demonstrably failed to understand my initial query. And it would be a tremendous insult to your intelligence if I treat you like kindergarten kids to explain the point I’m trying to make.
HIDUP UMNO NYNJ // Oct 26, 2006 at 4:05 am
Those three elements (social, religion, politics) stated by the author are well-blended in the objectives of NY-NJ UMNO Club. Hence the official name of the club perfectly reflects all those elements. No need to change the name.
bukan islam hadhari // Oct 26, 2006 at 8:05 pm
Umno is just practicing what we call as PRAGMATISM. Umno can appear as nationalistic, hedonistic, or even hadharistic depend on its audience. This clawn can play whatever characters that you want to see. They are such a good actor. And after all, these actors work only to catch glamour and money out of our pockets.
My advise to our fellow friends is you need to really understand who is this ‘animal’ called umno. How they trap their prey by changing its skin color over a single night!
Hamba Allah // Oct 26, 2006 at 9:49 pm
Assalamualaikum w.b.t. to saudara/saudari bukan islam hadhari,
I don’t know n I don’t care what kind of grudge u have against UMNO but don’t u think the word “animal” is to much? Did u realize by saying that u r not only refering to UMNO only but all the people involve as well?
Just think about it n rasionalized yourself. I’m not writing this as a representative or what but it’s personal as a human being. Is UMNO that cruel n pathetic? Just think about it. I know that if one person make mistake and so the others in the same group will share the shame n blame but think wisely, should u or should u not blame others which was doing something correctly while his/her friend was not? That is not fair, am I right?
I repeat what I said in the 2nd part’s comment, “a club is just a club but the one who made it as the way it should is the one inside”. Same goes to any kind of organization n community. Don’t only look at the bad part but also look at the good part as well. Don’t look at it as one but look at it as a whole.
So, all the great things came from Allah, n all the bad things about it came from my mistake alone as a human being.
Wassalam,
Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri
Maaf Zahir dan Batin

It’s good to see people from other organizations concern themselves with this particular UMNO Club. It only shows that we are doing something good.
bukan islam hadhari // Oct 27, 2006 at 2:16 am
Yes NNR, I am concerned with this issue but not because it has something to do with UMNO. Who cares about UMNO or NO MORE?. I see this issue as an akidah for our dear muslim friends. Halal and haram cannot be mixed together. And saying that you are doing something good only because people say something about it just show how superficial your thinking are.
to hamba Allah,
I am not against umno members. they are muslims and my friends too. But I am strongly against UMNO ideology which is nationalistic, corrupt and machievelian. You might be a good and hardworking student now, but we never know how the ‘tarbiyyah’ in umno would be. What would you become in ten years? a self centered oxford student like KJ? If your intention is good, why should you choose this well-known corrupted UMNO? You never answer the question raised by kaki bangku in his posting.
wa’alaikumusalam

To BUKAN ISLAM HADHARI
While it is endearing to see a brother caring for his fellow muslims, being that you viewed this as an issue of akidah, after all Allah SWT mentions in Surah al-Ghashiya verse 21, “Therefore you do remind, for you are one to remind”. Nevertheless, you seemed to contradict yourselve by putting doubts onto others, least of all onto my statement.
Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Avoid suspicion, for suspicion is the gravest lie in talk and do not be inquisitive about one another and do not spy upon one another and do not feel envy with the other, and nurse no malice, and nurse no aversion and hostility against one another. And be fellow-brothers and servants of Allah(Sahih Muslim, 4646).
You have done a great deal of injustice by interpreting my initial statement as mere superficial. This particular UMNO Club is newly established. As far as im concern, we will try our utmost best to uphold that which is good and denounce that which is bad. And it will be a grave conjecture on your part, if ever you think that this club would indulged in hedonistic malpractices.
Certainly I do not bear any ill-feeling towards your response, but do you not think that it is uncharacteristic of a muslim to invite suspicion upon others. Henceforth, let this serve as a reminder to both of us and to all. Let us strive to strenghten the bonds of brotherhood.

i think we have strayed from the real question of the post. Let’s put aside all sat-word comments and tackle directly to the core question of the post which is:
why a club that is not supposed to be political named after a political entity?

Aiseh,
we can oso open Club KMT or even Club BJP of NY/NJ and let others ridicule us oso. Take it like a pinch of salt, fren. It doesn’t matter as Malaysians knew how sad it is AMNO has been advocating their brand of nepotism, corruption and polarization of races in order to remain in power. True successful Malays do not hide this banner as they’re known amongst their peers and that’s it all that matters.

ya, absolutely. That non-partisan thing is a facade.
Anyway, you gotta be careful when pinging PPS though. Only a ping within the space of 7 mins is allowed. Any more could get yourself a ban.
later.
