The analysis of the guy who wrote the open letter to Professor Yunus is absolutely right. The idea of wiping out poverty is so damn naive giving that corruptions are openly considered acceptable.
Fine, give out more loans, then the politician or the wiser guys would come and cheat you, and then there you are, back to where you belong. No money.
I mean, what can you expect in a country which considered theft as an art considering that you don’t get caught red handed?
And you will realize that you will never get your revenge. The cheaters would just bribe the cops, politicians, judges and then get out safe and smiling. Don’t forget that this is a society where you are called a selfish and irresponsible man to your family if you didn’t take bribe. (For those who didn’t know, the government officials like the cops were paid in CENTS per DAY). How are you going to change that f you’re flat broke?
Hence it’s not hard to see that the granddaddy of poverty in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka is CORRUPTION. America just loves these types of countries. They gave out millions of human aids to show their bright side to the world while on the darker side, they knew that these aids won’t reach the poor but instead would go directly in the pocket of those curse politicians.
And what are the consequences; they’ve got undivided popularity and a good reputation, add more puppets, minus less future economic and intellectual enemy, and multiply the satisfactions of seeing Muslim countries suffer.
I don’t know what the present Malaysia have got up in their sleeve against corruption but I do hope the bright minds local and overseas could come out to show the world how the real work is done…..
