[5/6/2007] Sayyid Jaafar al-Barzanji

Tadi baru selesai kunjung ke blog Bahrus Shofa. Terdapat penjelasan lanjut berkenaan Sayyid Jaafar al-Barzanji, pengarang Maulid al-Barzanji yang sebelum ini dikritik oleh “Dr. Holier-than-thou”.

Sukacita juga ingin diumumkan terdapat beberapa kuliah menarik yang akan disampaikan oleh Ustaz Fahmi Zamzam, Ustaz Nuruddin al-Banjari dan Habib Umar bin Hafidz. Bagi pelajar-pelajar overseas yang akan pulang ke tanah air, eloklah menghadiri majlis ilmu tersebut. Maklumat lanjut di sini.

Sementara itu, saya telahpun meluangkan sejam untuk menulis entry baru berkenaan Socio-Psychological Imperative tapi terpaksa ditangguhkan dahulu atas sebab exam besok pagi.

[4/5/2007] Antara ISITA dan Jalan Telawi

Baru selesai berdiskusi dengan geng ISITA.

Banyak perkara menarik dibincangkan - perdebatan sunni-shia, kes Deobandi, gerakan ulama’ “Malam”, dan juga hal-hal peribadi.

Suatu nikmat besar bila berpeluang bersama pakar-pakar sejarah dan teologi. Walaupun mereka sentiasa bergeser bahu dengan para pemikir orientalis serata dunia namun geng ISITA ini tetap memperjuangkan tradisi ASWJ.

Dan apa nama tempat geng-geng intelek pseudo kat Bangsar tu… apo namo… Jalan Telawi?

[3/5/07] Republicans’ Presidential Candidates Debate

The Republicans’ Presidential Candidates Debate had concurred five minutes ago. Here’s my brief remarks:

- Mitt Romney was supremely confident and firm on his well-known stand

- Rudi Giuliani stuttered embarasingly when asked an Islam 101 question “What is the difference between Sunni and Shia?.”

- John McCain was a total bigot, with statements such as “I will follow him (Osama bin Laden) to the gates of hell.”

- I favored Tom Tancredo’s immigrant policy. But his performance was disastrous. Seriously, he was a laughing stock.

- Ron Paul is trying to do to Republicans as Joe Liebermann did to Democrats. I loved his foreign policy views, so my vote goes to him.

[2/5/07] Bigotry in Pascal’s Pensees

I came across this statement in Pascal’s Pensees (based on Glyn Hughes’ summary):

The Koran says Saint Matthew was an honest man. Therefore Mahomet was a false prophet for calling honest men wicked, or for not agreeing with what they have said of Jesus Christ.

What absolute bigotry! How could you revere this guy as a pioneer of European Enlightenment? Prof Muhammad was spot on when he said,

“One of the things that are important to develop in life is a lack of dogma.”
