Shhh…

November 23rd, 2007 · 1 Comment

Shh…
Endless words vomited from your mouth
You write blatantly conspicuous..clamorous
Need not to raise your voice..
Inaudible in the art of inarticulateness..
shh…
standstill undisturbed..unruffled..
Inanimate yet living
vigorous vivacious in mind
Trying to get in control
but…
shh…
Your analysis whisper
Uphold your meticulosity and conscience
Keep your faith..
Act with guts and wisdom..
You’ll fly high in the sky..
Freedom
Actions speak louder than words
Shh..

Palestin, Belas Kasihan Dan Keadilan

November 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

Minggu ini “Solidarity with Palestine Week”, anjuran Action Palestine, University of Manchester.

Nurses and School-Teachers Only, Please?

October 14th, 2007 · 26 Comments

Assalamualaikum.
OK, apologies to the unmentioned friend from whose statement this title is derived. No offence!
It had been a very lovely Eid in Manchester. Full of diet-crashing delicacies and mind-boggling extravaganza that makes the quadriceps-torturing walks to find the houses worthwhile. And of course, the warm hospitality of hosts and friendly company of fellow visitors make [...]

Dominant Party System

October 8th, 2007 · 2 Comments

This article about a failure of democracy when open-fair-party competition fails. An interesting quote from T.J Pempel explains this situation in a brief strong comportment;
A democracy predicted on the ability to “throw the rascals out” is far less convincing when it exists only in the abstract than when it is backed up by periodic [...]

Stop The War and Save The Polar Bears

September 26th, 2007 · 5 Comments

assalamualaikum.
These are the photo of the flyers that are being distributed around campus and residential halls (I got mine from the Gemini takeaway next door when I went to get some apple pies).

There are also posters on stop-the-war demonstration in London, on the 8th of October.
It is interesting to see that in countries like the [...]

Wacana II (apologi kepada Najwan Halimi!)

September 9th, 2007 · 9 Comments

Assalamualaikum.
Salam sejahtera.

Guli Kaca

August 25th, 2007 · 2 Comments

guli kaca
jernih
dalamnya ombak yang kaku
pelangi yang tertangkap
pernah lihat dakwat
pekat yang
menitis dalam air secawan
menari sebelum melarut
guli kaca
keras
dihempas ia melantun
meninggi lagi
walaupun retak
walaupun sompek
ombak yang kaku
pelangi yang tertangkap
kacanya pudar
warnanya terus.
aku tidak pernah lihat
guli yang pecah.

A Take on Feminism?

August 24th, 2007 · 3 Comments

salaam.
I found it pretty funny that certain groups of feminists seem to equate being male with being powerful, anything manly as something positive and to be striven for. Hence their struggle to turn females into males, in looks, occupation, carriage, personality, thinking, career, and everything under the sun, and call this ‘conversion’ success. Women who [...]

Islam & ABC, XYZing Islam, Islam ZYXed et. al., Ibid.

August 2nd, 2007 · 6 Comments

I have hitherto never come across such a notion of an “anthropology of Islam”. It was only when I was introduced to the pioneering works of Clifford Geertz’s Islam Observed (1971) and a provocative critique of his work by Daniel Martin Varisco, Islam Obscured (2005), that I realized the various nuances of Islamic studies and [...]

EXTREME MEDICINE (III) - Humility, Practicality, Obligation and Universal Compassion

June 24th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Assalamualaikum.
The third part of my ‘Extreme Medicine’ series. Feels like such a long time has passed since my last entry on this, I hardly knew where to begin! Well, most of this entry is based on what I remembered - and understood - of Dr Heng Aik Cheng’s speech. Really, what an impressive man.
He was [...]
